The Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club & Resort, established in 1996 and located about 40 minutes north of Chiang Mai town, is one of the region’s pioneering modern golf courses. Nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains, this 18-hole par 72 course stretches 6,969 yards, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and challenging play for golfers of all skill levels.

Designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson, the course features an abundance of lush greenery, mature trees, and diverse landscaping elements including waterfalls, streams, and flowering trees that emit delightful fragrances through the seasons. Built on the grounds of a former fruit orchard, it boasts one of Thailand’s richest varieties of tree species, contributing to the tranquil and natural ambiance.

The Royal Chiang Mai course cleverly integrates elements reminiscent of a British links-style course, emphasizing strategic play over sheer distance. Its bumpy fairways, pot bunkers, closely mown areas around greens, and strategically placed high-lipped greenside bunkers demand precision and skill. Elevated greens often cause players to misjudge distances, creating an additional challenge, while lakes, streams, and waterfalls come into play on most holes. The long par-5 seventh hole stands out as the signature hole, where scoring par is a sign of a great round.

The course’s cooler, less humid climate at higher altitude, combined with gentle breezes and clean air, makes it an inviting destination for a peaceful golf outing. Wildlife, particularly a variety of local birds, further enhances the experience.
