Sea Pines Golf Club – Scenic 18-Hole Championship Course Along the Gulf of Thailand
Sea Pines Golf Club, also known as Army Golf Club II, is a beautifully situated 18-hole par 72 layout playing along the stunning coastline of the Gulf of Thailand in Suan Son Pradiphat (Sea Pine Tree Garden). Originally owned by the Royal Forestry Department, the course was later developed and maintained by the Royal Thai Army under Field Marshall Sarit Thanarat’s leadership when he served as prime minister from 1957 to 1963.
The lush Sea Pines area is characterized by bracken pine trees and enriched by magnificent ocean and mountain views. The course was originally envisioned as a retreat for active and retired soldiers and their families. Today, it offers golfers a diverse range of challenges that vary with the wind and conditions, making it playable from relatively easy to highly demanding.
The layout is uniquely split with six holes running along the beachside and the remainder nestled toward the mountainous area, divided by a railway track. One of the standout holes is the demanding par-5 12th, protected by fairway bunkers and a water hazard on the right, plus a strategic bunker mid-fairway that forces a choice: attack with a driver or safely lay up.
The back stretch features some of Hua Hin’s finest golf holes. The par-5 16th dogleg requires a precise tee shot to a narrow downhill fairway surrounded by water hazards, followed by an approach shot that tests strategy—risking cutting over water and bunker to a sloping green or playing conservatively to the side.
Signature hole 17 is a memorable par-3 with spectacular ocean views, demanding a carry over water to a wide, undulating peninsula green, well guarded by beach bunkers front and back. Wind and pin placement make this hole especially challenging.
The finishing hole, a difficult par-4, features a water hazard canal requiring a long tee shot of over 220 yards to reach the fairway. Alternatively, players can opt for a safer lay-up with a fairway wood.
The modern clubhouse overlooking the Gulf offers excellent Thai cuisine, enhancing the overall experience. As a municipal course primarily operated by the Army, visitors should note that Army officers and guests have playing priority. It’s recommended to check for course availability ahead of time, especially for those on tight schedules.
